Zettelkasten Coaching Session in Obsidian
Watch me help my mom rewrite one of her Obsidian-based zettelkasten notes so that it is useable and findable. This real-time coaching session shows how I structure notes in a zettelkasten system, with an example of integrating fiction into academic research. As my mom prepares for her PhD program, we work through the practical steps of transforming vague notes into structured, interconnected ideas to enhance her research process. Topic covered: ✍️ Organizing research notes effectively ✍️ Connecting fiction examples to academic concepts ✍️ Building a functional zettelkasten in Obsidian ✍️ Note-taking for PhD research ✍️ Finding your notes when you need them
Should you limit connections in a zettelkasten?
Another viewer Obsidian/zettelkasten question from Instagram! This time - how many connections is too many? Can connections just clutter up your zettelkasten (regardless of where it is housed)? Well, ultimately, my answer is no - you shouldn't limit your connections out of fear of clutter. But you should also ensure that your connections are strong and your notes are irreducible thoughts. Do you have a question about the zettelkasten system? Let me know in the comments and maybe I'll make a video about it!

Does EVERY source need a note in your zettelkasten?
I received this question from a viewer recently and wanted to share my response with everyone! My short answer: No, not every single place you sourced information from needs its own unique note in your zettelaksten. However, if you might ever need the information from a source again, I'd go ahead and give it its own note! More notes, in a software like Obsidian, won't harm the system. It'll just add to your notetaking time. (Also called literature notes, bibliographic notes, etc.) #zettelkasten

How the zettelkasten SAVED my PhD
Save 50% by subscribing to Scrintal's annual plan: https://scrintal.com/?utm_source=YT&utm_medium=PNS&utm_campaign=A10668 I recently had to take a long break from my PhD dissertation writing. In my experience, the longer the break from working on a writing project, the harder it is to start up again. 🕒 This video outlines the steps I'm taking to get back to writing. ✍️ And so far - it's working! Although my time is limited, my writing is going faster than ever because when I sit down to write, I am focused on the specific tasks I need to complete to get the project done. No more reading to procrastinate or editing to perfection. Just planning, writing, editing, then back to planning for the next chapter. And that's how I plan to finish this darn PhD degree! Although I showcase how I'm using the notetaking/knowledge management app Scrintal to complete this process, you could do it on a piece of paper or the app of your choosing. (It does help to have a zettelkasten, though!!) If you ARE using Scrintal, this video also might help you understand how to integrate your Scrintal-based zettelksten into your planning to reignite your writing process!
